Revised-Ribbon Cutting Scheduled in Pike County for US 54 Safe and Sound Bridges
Revision in Bold - Location for the Ribbon Cutting

HANNIBAL - The public is invited to join MoDOT, its contractors, federal, state and local officials on Thursday, August 9 at 1 p.m. for a ribbon cutting in Pike County celebrating the opening of the new Noix Creek Bridges on US 54 between Louisiana and Bowling Green. The ribbon cutting will be held at the intersection of US 54 and Route UU just east of the new North Fork Noix Creek Bridge. Each bridge has been replaced with a new 44-foot wide bridge, and took a little over a month and a half to complete. These are the final of twelve bridges to be replaced in Pike County on MoDOT's Safe and Sound Bridge Program.

"We know this has been an inconvenience, and we appreciate the patience and cooperation of the area businesses, residents and Pike County officials as we worked to make these improvements," said MoDOT Area Engineer Brian Haeffner. "We worked closely with local officials to determine the best time to work on the bridges. It was very important to schedule the closings so it would not impact spring planting and fall harvests, and for the closure to occur while school was out for the summer," he explained. "The Safe and Sound Bridge program is a great example of what can be accomplished when funding is available," Haeffner added. "But with current transportation funding levels, it is unlikely Missourians will continue to see the number of bridge improvements we've had with Safe and Sound. In the midst of a funding shortage, we will focus on maintaining our current system for as long as possible."

More information about this bridge and others being repaired or replaced can be found online under the Safe and Sound Bridge Program icon at modot.org/northeast.
