HANNIBAL - Repairs will be made to Champ Clark Bridge this spring and will include an 8-day closure of the bridge. The project to make repairs to some of the trusses was awarded to Halverson Construction out of Springfield, IL for $257,770. A pre-construction meeting will be held Monday between MoDOT and the contractor to determine a timeline. However, the closure is not expected to take place until later because of the preparation work that has to be done. "We expect some lane closures the week of March 5, then we'll be waiting on materials, so it will be probably late this month before we have a better idea for the closure," said MoDOT Resident Engineer Marty Lincoln.
MoDOT will provide as much advance notice as possible to area residents about the closure. "We are also working with the Illinois Department of Transportation and area media to share this information," Lincoln said.
The bridge was damaged in an accident in December, and temporary repairs were made at that time. More information about the history of the bridge can be found online at modot.org under the Major River Bridges link or by calling MoDOT at 1-888-275-6636.
