HANNIBAL - MoDOT and its contractor are making progress to add two lanes of highway between the Rocket Plaza just west of Hannibal and Monroe City on Route 36. Weather permitting, beginning Thursday, October 11, crews will begin paving operations for the new westbound lanes north of the existing highway. During paving operations, construction equipment will be entering and exiting the work zone, motorists are urged to use caution and obey all road construction signs and reduced speed limits.
Next Tuesday, October 16, MoDOT anticipates closing the westbound on and off ramps at the Monroe City exit off of Route 36 onto Route Z/24. When the ramps are closed off, the contractor will pave a portion of the new highway, rebuild part of the ramps, and then tie it in to the existing highway. Motorists driving west will be directed to take the first Monroe City exit onto Business 36. Message boards are being placed to alert motorists of the closure, which is expected to last up to six weeks.
