New interchange opening delayed until Friday

HANNIBAL -- The opening of the new interchange at Rte. 61/C has been delayed until Friday, August 24.  "To give local drivers an idea of how this is going to look and function when it is complete, we encourage them to visit the map at Http://www.modot.mo.gov/northeast/MoscowMills/documents/Entireproject.pdf," said MoDOT Community Relations Manager Marisa Brown

When the interchange is opened, the access to Tropicana and Main Street/Elm Tree, as well as the crossovers, will be removed. The majority of traffic will access Moscow Mills at Route C.  However, the Bueneman Lane access will remain open as a right in-right out to northbound traffic only.  This access is connected to the new outer road which will take you into downtown Moscow Mills.

All the stoplights, both on the interchange and at Gracie Lane, will be functional.

The contractor will still be working in the area, and there will be work zones.  Next week, the contractor will extend the northbound on-ramp at Rte. 61/C about 400 ft.

"Please remember the speed limit is 60 mph, except in work zones where they are 45 mph," Brown emphasized.  The speed limit on Rte. C through the project limits is 35 mph and will remain 35 mph.  Law enforcement officers will be in full force to ensure drivers are following all traffic laws.

"We thought we had an alternate source for the materials needed for all the lighting on the interchange (not the signals...just lighting), but that fell through," Brown said.  Therefore, some lighting will be installed shortly, and the rest could take up to two months.

"We've appreciated the patience of the local residents as well as their feedback throughout this project," she added.
