Work is progressing nicely at Hopewell Hill where Route 47 closed on July 18 to complete construction of the new ¾ mile section of highway. Good news is if the weather holds, the contractor should be finished with this work and MO 47 could open to traffic as early as next week.
While the subcontractor is performing paving work, the contractor, H.R. Quadri of Van Buren, Missouri, is taking advantage of the closure to perform additional work which normally would have taken place after the road reopened. When the road opens to traffic, motorists will see minimal construction since a lot was accomplished while the road was closed. Temporary erosion controls will be monitored and later removed once vegetation has taken hold.
Despite some unusually wet conditions for a week or so during construction, MoDOT and H. R. Quadri Contractors are confident the completion date, originally scheduled for early September, will be moved up by several weeks.
Route 47 closed July 18 to connect the new section of highway to existing MO 47. Recommended detour is over Routes M and O. Message boards have been placed along I-70 near Warrenton and at the Missouri River Bridge near Washington, encouraging traffic and all commercial vehicles to use other routes during construction. Route 47 is expected to open next week.
