A Value Engineering Study - Route 54 Corridor
What is a Value Engineering Study?
- Type of brainstorming activity where a wide range of solutions is discussed
- Made up of engineers with diverse professional backgrounds and geographic locations
- Creatively speculate on options for projects and evaluate alternatives
- Team is not a decision-making body; they will introduce ideas and make recommendations to MoDOT and its planning partners
Why Study the Route 54 Corridor?
- We want to be in a position to move forward if funding becomes available. This means we need to work with key stakeholders to initiate the planning process. Since the environmental impact statement was completed 13 years ago, it's time to re-evaluate the document to incorporate "lessons learned" from other projects similar to this one over the years. Things have change a lot in 13 years, including the incorporation of MoDOT's "practical design" philosophy on how we address the required purpose and need of a project.
- This is a major regional need identified by our planning partners and is listed as a critical major project need in MoDOT's Conversation for Moving Missouri Forward document.
What is the Next Step After the Value Engineering Study?
- The study team will introduce recommendations to MoDOT's Northeast District management. After review, a decision will be made whether or not some, if any, of the recommendations should receive further consideration during the planning and design of the project.
- The environmental impact statement will be reopened, and significant re-evaluation of the existing document may be required.
