Airport Road overpass bridge in Jefferson City reopens

Bridge rehabilitation completed ahead of schedule

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Callaway County Route W (Airport Road) overpass bridge over U.S. Route 54 in Jefferson City is now open. Construction crews completed the rehabilitation work and reopened the overpass bridge to all traffic today, April 23, well ahead of schedule.

Magruder Paving, LLC closed the overpass bridge on April 8 to replace the expansion joints, repair the abutments, apply a protective coating, and install new guardrail. The contractor was able to repair the lower parts of the bridge while keeping it open to traffic, which significantly shortened the potential 60-day closure to just 15 days.

This is one of several projects aimed at enhancing safety, easing congestion, and prolonging the life expectancy of roads and bridges along the busy U.S. Route 54 corridor in Jefferson City. The contractors are coordinating their work in order to minimize impacts to the traveling public.
