MoDOT Offers I-70 Work Zone Map

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will be working throughout the year to make I-70 smoother and safer.  In order to help travelers navigate work zones on Missouri’s busiest interstate, a map outlining the project areas is now available.

The map features information about 18 work zones along I-70.  Details regarding whether work will be day or night; where projects are located; what types of improvements are being made; and expected completion dates are included.

“We are just beginning Missouri’s busiest highway construction season ever and a great deal of work will be on I-70.  The end result will be a smoother, safer ride,” said MoDOT Director Pete Rahn.  “This work zone map is a great tool to help motorists plan ahead and stay alert to changes in traffic conditions while these vital improvements are made.”

More than 1,000 work zones are expected throughout this year’s construction season.  Many of the projects were made possible by the passage of Amendment 3, which is also indicated on the map.

“We are working extremely hard to meet the governor’s challenge to complete the Smooth Roads Initiative by the end of the year, one year ahead of schedule, but that may mean inconveniences and delays along Missouri’s major highways,” Rahn said.  “While we do our job to make Missouri’s roads safer and smoother, we ask drivers to do their part by being patient, slowing down and paying careful attention in work zones.”

In addition to the I-70 work zone map, MoDOT has issued a statewide construction guide and maps for work zones along I-44 and other regions of the state.  Copies are available by calling MoDOT’s toll-free number, 1-888-ASK-MoDOT, or by going to the department’s work zone map web site.   The site also features an interactive work zone map that gives more details and the most up-to-date information available.
