Expect Delays as
Work Continues on I-44
WILLOW SPRINGS - The Missouri Department of Transportation has
closed two lanes of Interstate 44 as it works to replace nine
miles of pavement in Crawford County near the town of Cuba - about
an hour southwest of St. Louis.
Work began in early
June to replace the eastbound lanes and is expected to be complete
around Aug. 15. During this reconstruction all traffic has been
switched to the westbound lanes, resulting in one lane of traffic
in each direction.
This work has caused traffic
delays on this heavily traveled road, but they have been minimal
as motorists have traveled at off peak times or used alternate
routes around the construction project. Friday and Saturday
afternoons heading west and Sunday afternoon going east are still
very heavy travel times and motorists are encouraged to plan their
trips accordingly.
Motorists are encouraged
to utilize the alternate route of Route 50 West to Route 28 West
to Route 63 South. For those traveling to the Lake of the Ozarks,
take Route 50 to Route 54.
MoDOT is prepared to close the on-ramps
to I-44 at Routes 19 and UU if necessary to keep traffic flowing.
When the westbound on-ramp at Route 19 is closed, traffic can
take the alterna
te I-44 signed at Route
ZZ west to the intersection of Route ZZ and I-44. Large trucks
not being able to make the right turn at Route 19 onto Route ZZ
will need to proceed to Route 8 just north of Steelville to St.
James and I-44.
If the eastbound on
ramps at Route 19 and Route UU are closed, traffic will need to
go to the intersection of Route 19 and Route ZZ and go east on
the outer road all the way to Route H at Leasburg. Traffic can
get on I-44 heading east from there.
