Missouri's Blueprint - A Partnership Toward Zero Deaths
Missouri's strategic highway safety plan to be presented at statewide conference.

JEFFERSON CITY – The Traffic Safety and Blueprint Conference begins tomorrow in Columbia. Safety advocates from near and far will convene in this three-day meeting to get a first-hand look at the fourth edition of Missouri’s strategic highway safety plan, Missouri’s Blueprint – A Partnership Toward Zero Deaths.

This year's conference offers a wide variety of safety topics related to human factors, elderly drivers, young drivers, pedestrians, intersection designs and more.

“I’m very excited to reveal the newest edition of Missouri’s highway safety plan,” said Bill Whitfield, MoDOT highway safety director and chair of the executive committee of the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety. “This revision is the result of hundreds of hours of work by dedicated volunteers who said ‘yes’ when they were asked to help find ways to save lives.”

The work required to reduce deaths and serious injuries on our roadways is not an easy job. Missouri has seen a 31 percent reduction in fatalities since 2005 when 1,257 people lost their lives due to traffic crashes. Beginning in 2011, these fatality reductions began to plateau. In 2015, Missouri, as well as the rest of the nation, experienced an increase in fatalities.

Missouri’s Blueprint – A Partnership Toward Zero Deaths will be the state’s strategic plan during the next four years to save lives and reduce injuries.
