JEFFERSON CITY - With just a few days of 2010 remaining, it's time to decide what your New Year's Resolutions will be in 2011. The Missouri Department of Transportation urges citizens to make a pledge to Drive Clear in the New Year.
In Missouri, someone is killed or injured in an alcohol-related traffic crash every 1.7 hours. A total of 281 people were killed and 1,141 seriously injured in crashes involving an impaired driver in 2009. So, MoDOT will ring in the New Year by educating Missourians about the devastating effects and consequences of impaired driving with the "Drive Clear in the New Year" contest. The contest will run from Jan. 3 -7, 2011.
By taking the Drive Clear in the New Year quiz, located on MoDOT's website at http://www.modot.org/, and entering your name and contact information, participants will be automatically entered to win one of four $20 gas cards donated by MFA Oil/Break Time. However, everyone wins if motorists choose to always drive sober.
"This contest is another way to educate Missourians about the dangers of impaired driving," said MoDOT Highway Safety Director Leanna Depue. "We hope Missourians will take the quiz and pledge to drive sober all year."
The sweepstakes is open to all U.S. residents 18 years of age or older. No purchase is necessary to win. Only one entry per person is allowed. Winners will be randomly drawn and announced by 5 p.m. January 7.
