KANSAS CITY, Mo. - All Interstate 29/35 ramps and lanes in Kansas City will open tomorrow, Dec. 18, 2010. This marks the completion of major construction activity for MoDOT's Interstate 29/35 Connections "kcICON" Project, delivered on budget and six months ahead of schedule.
The ramp from southbound I-29/35 to Front Street will open tomorrow, marking the 18th and final ramp to be reconstructed on the project. This ramp is part of the new single point urban interchange at Interstate 29/35 and Front Street.
The $245 million kcICON project included the reconstruction/rehabilitation of 4.7 miles of Interstate 29/35 from just north of Route 210/Armour Road in North Kansas City into the northeast corner of the downtown Kansas City, Mo. freeway loop. The project also included improving outdated interchanges and construction of the new landmark, cable-stay Christopher S. Bond Bridge over the Missouri River.
