How Tweet It Is!
MoDOT using Twitter for traffic updates in St. Louis, Kansas City and along I-70

JEFFERSON CITY - This spring, the tweets you hear in Missouri are more than just the birds returning.  The Missouri Department of Transportation joins the chorus of tweets on Twitter, a micro-blog allowing the agency to provide important travel updates and news in 140 characters or less.

Real-time traffic alerts are available in St. Louis, Kansas City and along I-70 across the state. Follow at:

MoDOT's central office offers news and links of statewide interest at http://twitter.com/MoDOT, and several district offices have accounts to reach local travelers. Find available Twitter accounts at www.modot.mo.gov/Twitter/index.htm.

Twitter is one of the fastest-growing social media tools, with quadrupled growth over the last two months. U.S. comScore Media Metrix reports 17 million U.S. visitors in April, an 83 percent gain from March and a 3,000 percent gain from one year ago.

"Twitter is a great no-cost way MoDOT can reach out to customers with a tool they are already using," said MoDOT Director Pete Rahn.  "And, it is perfect for short bites of real-time information like traffic updates."
