JEFFERSON CITY -- MoDOT's popular Traveler Information App has gotten even better.
Users of iPhones, iPads and Android mobile devices who update the app will now have access to statewide traffic flow information in addition to incidents, closures, work zones, message boards and weather-related road conditions.
Based on Google's traffic monitoring system, roads that usually carry lots of traffic are color-coded to indicate their speed. Colors range from green (traffic moving at posted speeds) to red (traffic is moving significantly below posted speed limits, or even stopped).
Other changes allow for more convenient navigation. Users on iPhones and iPads will notice changes in the placement of icons. Instead of all icons appearing when a layer is chosen, the images are now clustered in groups, separating when the user zooms into an area for more information. The change keeps clutter to a minimum and makes navigation even easier.
Another added feature can be found in the app's My Routes function, which allows users to plot trips and see lists of road work, expected traffic delays, or incidents on selected routes.
MoDOT reminds users NOT to use the app while driving. Check your routes before you leave for your destination. Once you're on the road, the safest thing you can do is pay attention.
To update your Traveler Information App, go to Apple's App Store or Google Play and search for "MoDOT."
