JEFFERSON CITY, MO. - The Missouri Department of Transportation has named Kathy Harvey as the new assistant chief engineer.
Previously MoDOT's state design engineer, Harvey has served the agency for 22 years, beginning her career in 1991 as an intermediate highway designer in the southwest district. Throughout the past two decades, Harvey accepted various roles of increasing responsibility, including serving as a liaison and tech support engineer where she oversaw the historic preservation and environmental studies of the design division.
In 2005, Harvey accepted the position of state design engineer where she has served MoDOT at a statewide level. In this capacity, she administered plans for bid lettings, environmental and historic preservation efforts, updates for the Engineering Policy Guide, and various policy and regulatory issues. She is known as an advocate for innovative contracting methods and practical design.
"Kathy has helped the department achieve the level of national recognition we enjoy today," said MoDOT Chief Engineer Ed Hassinger. "Her proven leadership abilities and experience are the perfect match for the assistant chief engineer position."
As the assistant chief engineer, Harvey will support the strategies set forth by the executive team. This includes the leadership of maintenance, construction, design, work zone safety and several other areas of department operations.
"I believe in the vision of MoDOT's executive team and I'm excited to have the opportunity to be a part of implementing that vision," Harvey said. "I am passionate about transportation and about being a part of a team of dedicated professionals serving the citizens of this state."
Harvey feels strongly about MoDOT's continued embracement of technology to make the department more efficient. She wants to enhance and mature MoDOT's technological infrastructure so the department can meet the transportation challenges of tomorrow.
She is also passionate about the role of women in transportation.
"I want our female employees prepared to serve in leadership roles for MoDOT," Harvey said. "It is my desire to mentor and coach our next generation of leaders."
