MOTOR (Transportation and Civil Engineering) is an exciting educational program sponsored by The Missouri Department of Transportation. MOTOR’s goal is to generate interest in civil engineering and transportation careers among young people. The program addresses two related needs:
Recruiting exceptional students to transportation and civil engineering
Generating greater diversity in the workforce.
MOTOR introduces students to engineers and other transportation professionals, who use math and science principles to build and maintain our nation’s transportation systems. Under the guidance of a teacher and the assistance of MOTOR volunteers, students use science and math principles to solve real-world problems.
As a MOTOR school, you will be assigned a group of MoDOT professionals who will facilitate various engineering and transportation-related activities in your school throughout the academic year. Although not required it is recommended a school administrator be designated as the primary contact as well as a schedule of activities developed at the beginning of the school year. This will facilitate effective communication as well as a logical progression of activity throughout the year.
