Traffic Switch Will Bring Lane Closures and Traffic Impacts on I-470 Beginning Feb. 22 at 8 p.m.

LEE’S SUMMIT – The Missouri Department of Transportation will resume bridge rehabilitation work on Interstate 470 at Little Blue River, Cedar Creek, and View High Drive beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22. Crews will be shifting eastbound I-470 traffic to the westbound side of I-470 between Pryor Road and Blue Ridge Blvd. in order to continue rehabilitating the eastbound bridges along I-470. This traffic crossover will REDUCE I-470 to two lanes  in each direction with narrow shoulders each way until late April. Commute times are expected to increase significantly. We strongly urge motorists to plan ahead and find alternate routes if necessary.

  • Crews will CLOSE the two outside lanes of westbound I-470 beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, until 5 a.m. the following morning for striping work. Westbound I-470 will be returned to its normal configuration by morning rush hour on Friday, Feb. 23.
  • Crews will REDUCE westbound I-470 to ONE LANE for the traffic cross over beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22.
  • Throughout the weekend of Feb. 23, there is the possibility of ONLY ONE LANE being open in each direction along this stretch of I-470.
  • Beginning at 5 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, crews will have I-470 reduced to two lanes in each direction and shifted over the westbound side of I-470 until approximately late April.
  • Crews will CLOSE all ramps on View High Drive with the exception of the westbound I-470 off ramp.

This work is part of the extensive I-470 bridge rehabilitation project ranging from the Three Trails Crossing to I-70.  This project will SIGNIFICANTLY impact traffic along I-470 until November 2018. All work is weather permitting.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
