MoDOT To Suspend Most Construction Zones During Holiday Travel Weekend

LEE’S SUMMIT –  There will be less cones and more merriment on the highways this weekend. The Missouri Department of Transportation is restricting construction work on interstates and state highways during one of our busiest travel weekends of the year.

Most MoDOT construction projects that impact travel lanes will stop at noon Friday, Dec, 22, 2017, and resume at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017. Traffic will remain restricted in areas where there are permanent barriers including the Route 291 and Route 50 project, I-435 and Route 210 project, the Route W bridge project near Kingsville and Route M bridge project near Sedalia.  Exceptions will be made for emergency maintenance.

The Missouri Department of Transportation urges all motorists to always wear safety belts, follow posted speed limits and be alert for slowed traffic. Check the roadways on the Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org  to plan ahead for holiday travel, and drive with caution. Historically the Christmas and New Year holiday season is a deadly time on our nation’s roadways. There were 52 people killed and 243 seriously injured in Missouri traffic crashes between Dec. 10, 2016 and Jan. 1, 2017. Eight of the fatalities and 20 of the serious injuries involved a substance-impaired driver.
