MoDOT Will Start Full Depth Pavement Repairs on Route AA On Monday Oct. 2

LAFAYETTE COUNTY – The Missouri Department of Transportation will begin an extensive full depth pavement repair project on Route AA in Lafayette County on Monday Oct. 2. This project will remove and rebuild the road from Route 50 to Route 58. All work is weather permitting.

This road is subject to heavy truck traffic from the locally owned quarry. This type of full depth pavement repair will strengthen the route to withstand the traffic. Crews will begin near Route 58 and work during daytime hours. It will take roughly two weeks to complete the full route.

Full-depth reclamation is a recycling process in which the pavement section and a portion of the subgrade are pulverized, then treated with a chemical additive such as Portland Cement. The result is a chemically stabilized base that provides a much stronger and long lasting section for the new pavement or surface layer. Paving crews will then come in and overlay the base with a new 3-inch-thick asphalt driving surface on top. This exact pavement work has been used successfully near a quarry in Cass County. For more information, check out the project website on www.modot.org/KansasCity.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
