Crews to Open Blackwell Interchange, Portions of Outer Roads Tonight
Continued work on interchange expected through October

LEE’S SUMMIT – The Missouri Department of Transportation will OPEN the Blackwell Interchange at Route 50 and Blackwell Road tonight. Other portions of the project will also open. However continued work on connecting roads, sidewalks and roundabouts will continue through October.

Crews will also begin removing the cross overs along Route 50 and will have intermittent lane closures during non-peak hours for the next two weeks. They will begin on the eastbound lanes then switch to westbound. Access to Route 50 from Smart Road, Milton Thompson, Lone Jack/Lee’s Summit Road, Harris Road and a field entrance cross over between Harris and Highway 7 will also be CLOSED. Traffic will use the completed outer roads to reach Route 50 at the Blackwell Interchange. All work is weather permitting.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
