MoDOT crews in Missouri and KC set to deply to Florida

Kansas City – The Missouri Department of Transportation is set to deploy several crews from across Missouri and the Kansas City District to Florida to help with Hurricane Irma recovery.

The Strike Team from the Kansas City District will consist of eight maintenance workers from Cass and Johnson Counties. They will be preparing for deployment Monday, Sept. 11 with a safety briefing at 9 a.m. at the Warrensburg, MO. Maintenance Facility (660 NE 375th St). Following the briefing, the crew will leave at 10 a.m. where they will meet up with other MoDOT crews in Sikeston, MO.

The Strike Team’s target city has not been determined just yet. However, their task has been decided. They will be performing a “cut and throw” operation in which they will be clearing debris from roadways.

The Strike Team will be a self-contained group. They will be deployed with tents, cots, MREs (meals ready to eat), bottled water and fuel tanks. The group will take with them four vehicles, which will include a backhoe and skid steer for clearing brush. They will also take chainsaws.

The Strike Team will be deployed for at least two weeks, but may stay longer. Another group from the Jackson County District will also be preparing for deployment and will eventually relieve the first group.
