MoDOT Issues Request for Qualifications for I-435 Corridor Project in South Kansas City

MoDOT Issues Request for Qualifications for I-435 Corridor Project in South Kansas City

LEE’S SUMMIT – It impacts more than 100,000 commuters per day, it is the second highest traffic volume of any MoDOT facility in Kansas City and is one of the top highest in traffic volume in the metropolitan area, and Missouri Department of Transportation says it’s due for an upgrade.

Today the department released its Request for Qualifications for the project known as the I-435 South Loop Link. With a budget of $74 million, the department has bundled all the work into a design-build format – bid-winning consultants can both design the concept and build the finished project.

The I-435 corridor was originally constructed in 1966 as a six-lane freeway, an additional lane was added in phases from 1983 to 1994. Improvements have been made over the past 20 years by both Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and MoDOT, but overall this corridor has been left virtually unchanged

The project has pretty simple goals: Improve the corridor, keep construction impacts to a minimum, stay on budget and build it to last. The final concept will address the aging bridges as well. Construction is scheduled to begin next summer and will last through the spring of 2020

All RFQs are due by 10 a.m. July 7, 2017. Read the full request on MoDOT’s website. Learn more about the project here: www.modot.org/kansascity/major_projects/I435South/
