Urgent repairs will cause I-29 lane reduction near downtown KC

JACKSON COUNTY – Missouri Department of Transportation crews have reduced northbound Interstate 29 down to two lanes between the I-70/I29 split and the Paseo on-ramp due to a failed box culvert, which is owned by the City of Kansas City, Missouri. Recent heavy rains may have been the cause of the failure.

To make permanent repairs to the box culvert, crews will further reduce northbound I-29 down to one lane from 9 p.m. Monday, May 1 and plan to reopen all lanes by Tuesday, May 2 before morning rush-hour. Motorists should allow ample time for travel delays due to work being done at the location of the downtown loop location. All work is weather dependent.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention while driving in work zones. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.
