Closure of Routes C and J Bridge Begins After Holiday

PECULIAR - The boom of the last Independence Day aerial shell may still be echoing early July 5 when MoDOT closes the Routes C and J bridge and begins bridge deck removal and replacement work.

While the bridge deck removal at the busy Route 71 interchange will mean significant disruption to the community, MoDOT has negotiated with the contractor a short 35-day closure to ensure that the project is completed well before the school year begins. Phillips Construction Co. workers have already begun tasks off the bridge and along Route 71 to prepare for a quick start. When completed in the second week of August, the new deck should be strong and smooth for decades to come. The project includes adding a barrier-protected pedestrian walkway, improvements to the approaches and new lighting and signals.

MoDOT's Website, www.modot.mo.gov/kansascity,  provides an overview of the project and will offer frequent updates of the work in progress.
