PLATTE COUNTY, MO. - On May 1, The Missouri Department of Transportation will close the Route B Bridge over the Little Platte River -- Platte County's final bridge under the Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program.
The Route B Bridge built in 1957, carries more than 1300 vehicles per day and will be rehabilitated by Widel Inc. Crews will close this bridge for no more than 32 days. A signed detour will direct traffic around the closure by Route KK, Route 169 and Route 92.
The Safe & Sound program will improve 800 of Missouri's worst bridges in five years. In the Kansas City area, MoDOT will replace or repair 145 bridges - 15 in Platte County. Complete bridge closure is necessary to allow the contractor to complete the work quickly and open the bridges faster.
Inclement weather could postpone the project.
