Completed Project Highlights

Belton Oil Creek Greenway Trail

Mr. Todd Spalding and Mr. Ted Lange of the City of Belton presented to the KC District LPA Advisory Group on that City's Belton Oil Creek Greenway Trail project.

The City recognized the need for a trail connection when MoDOT began working on the 163rd Street at what is now I-49.  I-49 was identified as an east to west barrier for trailways near Belton.  The City applied for and received a Transportation Enhancement Grant through MARC.

Future phases of this trail will connect to MO 58 and could link Belton trails with Grandview trails and then on to Longview Lake and other regional trails, like the Katy Trail and the Metro Green trail.

People love the trail and use it regularly.  It is has linked neighborhoods to the community center, community park and community activities.

Pleasant Hill Trail

Mr. Brian Nolte presented to the KC District LPA Advisory group on The City of Pleasant Hill's Trail projects.

The first phase of the trail utilizes an abandoned MoPAC railroad line and follows railroad right of way to Smart Road and connects to Pleasant Hill's City Lake. This 1.7 mile limestone trail has two 125' bridges and a low water crossing.  Since its completion in 2011 is has proved to be a very active trail.  A local group has adopted the trail and helps pick up trash and keep the trail clean.

Phase 2 of this trail is currently under construction.  This phase will construct 1.3 miles of new trail that starts where the previous trail ended and will connect with Cass Co fair grounds.  This segment will eventually connect to the Katy Trail.  A trailhead for the Katy Trail is planned at the Cass county fairgrounds. The City is hoping the Katy trail connection will be completed by the end of 2014.

BRO Projects Environmental Requirement Reminder

Please keep in mind that asbestos and lead paint testing are required on all BRO projects.  This is not a new requirement but it seems to be taking many County's by surprise.

A Missouri certified asbestos inspector and testing lab will need to determine if asbestos is present.  If the bridge has any painted surfaces, that paint will need to be tested for the presence of lead.

Here are some links to general information bulletins from DNR.

KC District LPA Staff Changes

Congratulations to Lee Ann Kell and Rich Shipley.   Rich and Lee Ann have recently received Project Manager positions in the Kansas City district.  They will gradually be moving away from project administration responsibilities for local projects and assume those duties for state led projects on MoDOT's right of way.

Jackie White has assumed a position outside of MoDOT.

Mike Landvik assumed a position on a design build team in the KC District in December 2012.

For the time being LPA Project administration responsibilities for the Kansas City district prior to construction will primarily be handled by Gerri Doyle and Marisela Ward.  Project administration responsibilites after construction will continue to be handled by James Bentley and Dave Luther.

Some of these vacant positions within MoDOT's KC Planning Division will be filled.
