What is the problem?

Route 92 is currently an older, two-lane highway within the city limits of Kearney.  As the area continues to grow and develop, the roadway has become obsolete, creating capacity and safety issues in the area. MoDOT is working closely with city officials to address the needs of the community.

What is the solution?

The proposed solution will widen the road to four lanes with turn lanes, creating a 5-lane section of roadway from just east of Interstate 35 to Sam Barr Road. This will minimize congestion and enhance safety along this busy roadway. A designated lane for turns allow vehicles to safely pull out of the driving lanes to make a turn while through traffic continues to move along Route 92.

Proposed improvements also include building an additional westbound lane underneath the bridge at I-35.  Sidewalks will be added along the south side of Route 92.

In addition, sections along Route 92 between Sam Barr Road and Nation Road will receive intersection improvements, removing hills to improve sight distance, incorporating roundabouts to improve safety.
