The rehabilitation of 10 bridges along north and southbound I-435 between 23rd Street and Front Street begins in late March. The work zone will reduce I-435 from three to two, 11-foot lanes, and traffic delays are expected for the more than 75,000 drivers using this stretch of interstate daily, especially during peak times.  All work is weather dependent and will wrap up by mid-October.

Project Schedule:

Work is expected to begin in late March and last through October.

Work begins on southbound I-435 through mid-June and wraps up with northbound by the end of August.

Resurfacing of both sections of I-435 will complete the project during night work through October.

Work Zone Features:

I-435 will be reduced to two, 11-foot lanes. MoDOT is encouraging motorists to use alternate routes during construction, such as I-29/35 or Route 291.

Motorists on I-435 between 23rd Street and Front Street should expect delays especially during rush hours and peak periods. If possible, avoid driving through this area, flex work schedules to avoid rush hour traffic.

Motorists are advised to follow the posted, reduced speed limit of 55 mph and drive safely through the work zone. MoDOT reminds motorists to not drive distracted and watch for workers on the road. Law enforcement will be monitoring these work zones to ensure motorist and worker safety.

Expect lane reductions, narrow lanes and ramp closures during construction.

  • I-435 will be reduced from three lanes to two, 11-foot lanes during construction and the speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph.
  • Work begins on southbound I-435. The right driving lane will close, shifting traffic to the two outside lanes for approximately six weeks.
  • Once the right side is done, work will begin on the two remaining lanes, moving traffic to the right lane and shoulder. All work on southbound is expected to finish by mid-June.
  • Work moves to the northbound I-435 bridges, reducing the driving lanes from three to two, 11-foot lanes.
  • Motorists will encounter intermittent ramp closures. The most significant ramp closure includes the ramps at Hwy 24. The northbound I-435 on-ramp from Hwy 24 will close for the duration of the northbound bridge work.

The project contractor is Comanche Construction Inc. The overall value of the construction contract is $5.5 million.
