The bridge decks in both directions of I-70 over the Blackwater River require full deck replacement. The bridges are located at mile marker 77 near Marshall Junction.
Bridge work began Monday, April 20.
The westbound bridge will be complete mid-August and the eastbound bridge will be complete in mid-September. This is a full 24/7 lane closure on I-70 but work will be performed during daytime hours and will reduce lanes to one 12-foot lane in each direction, and cause heavy congestion through the area. Click here for camera views of the construction area.
This will be followed by pavement work on I-70 from the bridges east to the Cooper County line. Pavement work is scheduled to be complete in November. All work is weather dependent.
How will these projects benefit me?
The new bridge decks will provide 20+ years of uninterrupted service and the pavement will provide a smooth ride for travelers in Saline County.
What is the impact to traffic?
MoDOT recommends motorists allow extra travel time through the work zone and prepare for heavy congestion. Tens of thousands of cars travel this corridor daily, of which 40 percent includes truck traffic. Roadside message boards will be updated with estimated travel time as it is available.
Consider alternate routes such as Route 50, Route 65 and Route 36.
