Project Information

I43 I70 Interchange

Why is MoDOT doing this project?

MoDOT is replacing the bridges within the I-435 and I-70 Interchange. The purpose of this project is to replace bridges within the interchange, which creates the opportunity to make additional improvements in a cost-effective manner.  Other improvements include enhancing safety by removing left exits and by improving configuration of the loop ramps.  The new configuration will be a partial turbine.

This project was identified as one of the possible improvements to ease congestion and crashes often caused by merging and weaving in the I-70 Environmental Impact Study. Read more about the study and selected alternatives here: www.modot.org/kansascity/metroi70/

This project is open for bid in August 2018 and will be under construction in Spring 2019.

What are the benefits to the community?

The replacement will improve accessibility and safety to motorists. This interchange is the source of congestion during peak travel times and the current loop ramps pose challenges for trucks as they navigate the tight loop.

The interchange's proximity to the busy Stadium complex will also benefit fans during events once it is reconfigured.
