Materials Inspector, Intermediate Materials Inspector or Senior Materials Inspector
 

General Summary:

MATERIALS INSPECTOR

The materials inspector performs or assists with conducting tests and investigations of materials and methods used in the construction or repair of transportation systems.

Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree: Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Lead Worker Only

Special Working Conditions/Job Characteristics:

Job requires regular, statewide, overnight travel.

Job requires moderate physical activity.

Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.

 

INTERMEDIATE MATERIALS INSPECTOR

The intermediate materials inspector performs inspection, sampling, and testing of materials used in state highway construction and maintenance to ensure that materials supplied by contractors and producers meet standards and comply with specifications.

Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree: Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering

Certification to operate nuclear gauges may be required.

Two years of experience in highway or transportation engineering.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Lead Worker Only

Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.

SENIOR MATERAILS INSPECTOR

The senior materials inspector conducts investigations of materials or construction practices used in highway and bridge construction and maintenance. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree: Civil Engineering

Four years of experience in highway or transportation engineering.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Lead Worker Only

Special Working Conditions/Job Characteristics:
