Innovative Safety Project to Begin on Camden and Miller County Highways

CAMDEN COUNTY – A section of U.S. Route 54 and Missouri Route 5 in Camden County and a section of Route W in Miller County will get an application of an innovative treatment designed to provide motorists with more traction in rain, ice or snow.

The application, called High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST), will begin on a Route 5 curve just south of Greenview. The work will take place from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. from Monday, July 31 through Wednesday, August 2. One lane of Route 5 from Lake Road 5-64 to Lake Road 5-66 will be closed during the work.

Once the treatment on Route 5 is complete, crews will place HFST on a Route 54 curve between Camden County Routes A and Y. During the work, one lane of Route 54 will be closed from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2 through Thursday, August 3 and again on Monday, August 7 through Tuesday, August 8.

High Friction Surface Treatment will also be applied to a Miller County Route W curve, located between Lake Road W-22 and Cotton Road. The HFST will take place from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. from Tuesday, August 8 through Thursday, August 10. One lane will be closed through the work zone.

Work is weather permitting. Crews will flag motorists through the work area at each location included in the project.
