Shamrock/Liberty Road Intersection to Close May 1

JEFFERSON CITY – Shamrock/Liberty Road on the south side of U.S. Route 50/63 in Jefferson City and the median crossover at the intersection are set to close on May 1 as part of a project to make travel in the area safer.

Shamrock/Liberty Road travelers on the south side of Route 50/63 will have to use Route M and the Route 50/63 and Route M interchange to access Route 50/63. Eastbound Route 50/63 traffic will access Shamrock Road on the north side of Route 50/63 by taking eastbound Route 50/63 to the Militia Drive interchange and then taking westbound Route 50/63 to Shamrock Road.

When the intersection reopens on or before June 1, the following traffic movements will be permanent:

  • Access to Liberty/Shamrock Road on the south side of Route 50 will be reduced to right-turns only from eastbound Route 50.
  • Northbound traffic on Liberty/Shamrock Road from the south side of Route 50 will be able to turn right onto eastbound Route 50.
  • Westbound Route 50 traffic will be able to turn right to go north on Shamrock Road.
  • Southbound traffic on Shamrock Road from the north side of Route 50 will be able to turn right onto westbound Route 50.
  • Eastbound traffic on Route 50 will be able to turn left to go north on Shamrock Road.

“This work is a step in the right direction to making the intersection safer,” said David Silvester, district engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Central District. “The changes address the two main crash causes at the intersection: motorists making right turns out of North Shamrock onto Route 50/63, and drivers making left turns out of South Shamrock/Liberty Lane to head west into Jefferson City. ”

The project also includes repairing and resurfacing eastbound and westbound Route 50 from the Moreau River to near the Osage County line and adding a deceleration lane to eastbound Route 50 and an acceleration lane to westbound Route 50 at the Lisletown intersection.

Motorists should be prepared for single lane closures at various locations along Route 50 during the project, which is scheduled for completion in July.

More information about this project, including maps, diagrams, and frequently asked questions, is available at www.MoDOT.org/Central.
