Reminder: Rangeline Reduced to One Lane in Each Direction Starting Monday

Construction of the new eastbound Interstate 70 bridge at Rangeline Street will reduce Rangeline to one lane in each direction for 30 days starting Monday.

The left southbound lane will be closed from south of Vandiver Drive to south of the eastbound I-70 off-ramp. The right northbound lane will be closed from south of the eastbound I-70 on-ramp to the westbound I-70 off-ramp.

As a result, there will be no access to northbound Rangeline from eastbound I-70. All other ramp movements will remain open.

A diagram showing the traffic flow is available on the Missouri Department of Transportation’s website, www.modot.org/central.

“It’s best if drivers avoid Rangeline at I-70 for the next month,” said Travis Koestner, assistant district engineer for MoDOT’s Central District. “There are other ways to get around Columbia, and we hope local folks will use them.”

Here’s a look at other upcoming traffic impacts associated with the project:

  • Motorists will encounter periodic lane restrictions at Garth between the last entrance to Bob McCosh Chevrolet and Texas Avenue for the next two weeks while the contractor, Emery Sapp and Sons, builds retaining walls for the new eastbound bridge over Garth. Crews will flag traffic through the area.
  • Bridge girders for the new I-70 bridge at Business Loop will be set next week. The work will require the westbound I-70 off-ramp at Business Loop to be narrowed to 10 feet.
  • The southbound Business Loop ramp to eastbound I-70 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8 and Tuesday, Feb. 9 to allow the contractor to install drainage systems. The northbound ramp to eastbound I-70 will remain open. The sidewalk next to the eastbound on-ramp at Business Loop will be removed as part of the work.

The $18 million design-build project, which also includes building new roundabouts at the Business Loop 70/West Boulevard interchange and at Rangeline, is running slightly ahead of schedule. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 1, 2016.
