Rangeline, Garth Bridges to Come Down Next Week

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Rangeline Street and Garth Avenue will be closed next week for demolition of the existing eastbound Interstate 70 bridges at those locations.

Rangeline between the eastbound and westbound I-70 ramps will be closed from 5 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 21 through 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23. Garth Avenue between the last entrance to Bob McCosh Chevrolet and Texas Avenue will be closed from 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22 to 5 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24. There will be no lane closures on I-70 next week.

The contractor on the project, Emery Sapp and Sons, will use heavy equipment to bring down the existing bridges. The steel taken from the old bridges will be recycled.

Built in 1957, the bridges are being replaced under an $18 million design-build project, which also includes building a new bridge and a roundabout at Business Loop 70/West Boulevard and a new roundabout at Rangeline. The project, which is scheduled for completion next October, is running slightly ahead of schedule.
