Work on I-70 Bridge Replacement Project to Close Rangeline Sidewalks

August 20, 2015 02:18 PM
Detour Established for Pedestrians

COLUMBIA - The sidewalks along Rangeline Street (Route 763) between Interstate 70 and Vandiver Drive in Columbia will be closed beginning Monday, Aug. 24 as part of the project to replace the I-70 bridges at Business Loop 70, Garth Avenue and Rangeline Street. The sidewalks will remain closed for several months as construction takes place.

Pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to detour around the closed sidewalks by taking Business Loop 70 to Providence Road to Vandiver Drive. They can also use Columbia's public transit system, COMO Connect, to travel through the area. The Co-Mo Connect Black Connector has stops at Boone Electric Cooperative and Rangline on the south side of I-70 and at Rangeline and Vandiver on the north side of I-70.

Maps showing the pedestrian detour route and the COMO Black Connector Route can be found online at www.modot.org/ColumbiaBridges.

"We appreciate the patience of the pedestrian and bicycle community while we make these much needed bridge improvements," said Travis Koestner, assistant district engineer for the Missouri Department of Transportation's Central District.

The $18 million design-build project, which also includes building new roundabouts on the north and south sides of I-70 at the Business Loop 70/West Boulevard interchange and at Rangeline, has an aggressive construction schedule. To speed up the work, several of the new bridges will be built next to the existing structures and slid into place. The project is scheduled to be completed by Oct. 1, 2016.
