COLUMBIA - To reduce left-turn crashes on Route 163 (South Providence Road) at the intersection connecting Buttonwood Drive and Providence Outer Road in Columbia, the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin work Sunday, Aug. 17 to reconfigure the crossover.
When the work is completed, left turns onto Route 163 from Buttonwood Drive and Providence Outer Road will be prohibited at the intersection. Motorists traveling on Providence Outer Road and Buttonwood Drive will still be able to access Route 163 with a right turn. Left turns from Route 163 onto Buttonwood Drive or Providence Outer Road will still be permitted.
Diagrams showing both the current layout and an example of what the new layout will look like can be found on MoDOT's Central District website at http://www.modot.org/central/
Weather permitting, work will begin on Sunday night at 8 p.m. and will end Monday morning at 6 a.m. Work will resume Monday night at 8 p.m. and will end on Tuesday before the morning commute. Motorists will encounter periodic center-turn lane closures throughout the evening hours and may also encounter short delays for flagger-controlled operations at the intersection of Buttonwood and Route 163.
