The $881,239 bridge is being built by APAC-Missouri using an innovative technique called geosynthetic reinforced soil. This bridge-building method is faster and less expensive than traditional methods because it eliminates the need for driving costly and time-consuming bridge piles. Geosynthetic reinforced soil abutments use granular fill layered with synthetic materials to form the support for the bridge.
The bridge is currently closed and is scheduled to reopen on Sept. 15.
For more information about this project, including a camera focused on the bridge construction that takes a photo every 10 minutes and a time-lapse video that depicts everything from the old bridge's demolition to construction on the new bridge to date, please visit the project's webpage at http://www.modot.org/central/major_projects/RouteBBridge.htm.
