OSAGE COUNTY - The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to discuss plans to realign Route 133 near Meta in Osage County. The hearing will take place at the Civic League Hall located at 301 Olive Street in Meta, Mo. The location is accessible to persons with disabilities. The realignment begins approximately a half mile south of Route B at Meta and continues south for about a half mile. The work is being done to improve safety by reducing the grade of a steep hill at this location. The project will cost about $660,000.The realignment will require closing the roadway and detouring traffic for about three and a half months. Route 133 will also be resurfaced from Route B to Route 52 as part of a separate project that will take place at the same time. That work will cost about $134,000. The realignment and resurfacing is scheduled to begin in July 2012. Right of way will be needed east and west of the roadway to complete the work. In addition to the public hearing for the Route 133 realignment, MoDOT will also hold a public meeting at the same time on Sept. 22 at the Meta Civic League Hall for two additional projects scheduled to take place in the area.MoDOT plans to replace the Sugar Creek Bridge on Route 133 in late April 2012. The bridge work is part of MoDOT's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program designed to improve 802 bridges in five years-by the end of 2013. To speed construction, the Sugar Creek Bridge will close during construction, which is expected to last about a month and a half. Traffic will be detoured. The closure is being coordinated with the closure of the Route 133 realignment work in Meta. To ensure access is maintained to properties located between the two projects, Route 133 will not close at both work locations at the same time. Some right of way and easements are needed for the Sugar Creek Bridge replacement. MoDOT will also present information on Sept. 22 about plans to rehabilitate the Route B Bridge over the Osage River in Cole County. Work is scheduled to take place in early 2013 and take about four months to complete. The bridge is located north of St. Thomas. One lane will remain open during construction and temporary traffic signals will guide motorists through the work zone. No additional right of way is needed for this work. The project will cost about $3.6 million. The public may meet with MoDOT staff about all three of these projects at any time during the advertised hours to ask questions and express their views about the roadway improvements. Maps and other displays outlining project details will be available to the public.
