Northbound U.S. 63 Cedar Creek Bridge to Close for Rehabilitation

CALLAWAY COUNTY- If weather permits, the Cedar Creek Bridge on northbound U.S. 63 in Callaway County will close for rehabilitation during the week of April 11.

The bridge will remain closed for about a month and a half while crews replace the bridge deck and upgrade guard rail. During this time, northbound traffic will be redirected onto one southbound lane for approximately ¾ mile.

Crews must finish work on median crossovers before the closure can begin. MoDOT anticipates the bridge to close sometime mid-week.

"It is very important for motorists to slow down, follow work zone signing, remain patient and drive with care through the area," said MoDOT Resident Engineer Charles Sullivan. "Motorists commuting between Jefferson City and Columbia should allow additional time to reach their destinations."

Bridge painting will take place after the bridge reopens, but some lane closures may still be needed to finish that work.

The Cedar Creek Bridge is located about 1.5 miles south of the Boone/Callaway County line. The rehabilitation work is part of MoDOT's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, which will improve 800 of Missouri's worst bridges in five years - by the end of 2013. Ninety bridges will be replaced or repaired in the mid-Missouri area as a part of this program. Currently, over 330 of the bridges included in the program have been improved statewide.

The existing northbound bridge was constructed in 1968. The rehabilitation work will cost approximately $901,000. APAC-Missouri, Inc. of Columbia, Mo. has been contracted to complete the project.
