Southbound U.S. 63 Opens to Traffic as Crews Complete the Turkey Creek Bridge Replacement

BOONE COUNTY - A project to replace the Turkey Creek bridge on southbound U.S. Route 63 in Boone County is nearing completion, and crews will open the bridge to traffic late in the afternoon on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, weather permitting.

The Turkey Creek bridge is located just south of Route AB and Deer Park Road. Construction on the bridge began on Sept. 20. During the work, one lane of southbound traffic was redirected onto one northbound lane for approximately 1.25 miles using a temporary median crossover.

Motorists can expect occasional, temporary lane closures in both the north and southbound lanes near the bridge as crews remove the crossovers. The Missouri Department of Transportation encourages motorists to slow down, follow work zone signing, and drive with care through the area.

The bridge replacement is part of MoDOT's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, which will improve 800 of Missouri's worst bridges in five years - by the end of 2013. Ninety bridges will be replaced or repaired in the mid-Missouri area as a part of this program.

Seven bridges are currently under construction in Central Missouri. Statewide, there are 60 bridges currently under construction and more than 260 are already completed.

For more information about this project or for a complete listing of bridges included in the program, please call 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636) or log onto www.modot.org/central.  You can also follow MoDOT's Central District on Twitter at https://twitter.com/MoDOT_Central
