Turkey Creek Bridge Replacement on U.S. 63 in Boone County to Begin Sept. 20

BOONE COUNTY - On Monday, Sept. 20, weather permitting, the southbound Turkey Creek Bridge on U.S. 63 in Boone County will close to traffic so construction crews can tear down and replace the structure.  The southbound Turkey Creek Bridge is located just south of Route AB and Deer Park Road.

Work to demolish the old bridge and build a new one will take about a month and a half. During this time, one lane of southbound traffic will be redirected onto one northbound lane for approximately 1.25 miles using a temporary median crossover. Construction crews will begin to move southbound traffic to the northbound lane early Monday morning.  Motorists should expect possible delays.

"Those traveling between Jefferson City and Columbia should allow some additional time for their commute," said MoDOT Area Engineer Mike Schupp. "We encourage everyone to slow down through the work zone, follow construction signing, buckle up and drive with care through the area."

The southbound bridge was constructed in 1925 and later rehabilitated in 1967.

"The southbound bridge currently has a posted weight limit and although it has served motorists very well over the years, it is in poor condition and needs to be replaced," said Schupp.

The bridge replacement is part of MoDOT's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, which will improve 800 of Missouri's worst bridges in five years - by the end of 2013. Ninety bridges will be replaced or repaired in mid-Missouri as part of this program. So far, more than 222 bridges have been improved across the state.
