Median Crossover Work to Begin at Turkey Creek on U.S. Route 63 in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY - Median crossover work is set to begin the week of August 16 near Turkey Creek on U.S. Route 63, just south of Route AB in Boone County, weather permitting. The work is part of a plan to replace the southbound Turkey Creek bridge on Route 63.

Crews with KTU Constructors, contractor for the Missouri Department of Transportation, will begin building the median crossovers as part of a Safe & Sound bridge replacement project.

The crossovers will be built on either side of the Turkey Creek bridge so southbound traffic can eventually be redirected onto one northbound lane while the southbound bridge is replaced.

Work in the median is expected to take approximately one month. Motorists can expect periodic lane closures in both northbound and southbound lanes for short periods as needed during the work.

Once the crossovers are complete in mid-September, the southbound bridge will close and motorists will have one lane open in each direction for approximately 1.25 miles through the work area. The bridge will remain closed for approximately a month and a half.

Motorists can also expect lane closures in the northbound lanes during the week of Aug. 23, as MoDOT crews replace concrete on the northbound Turkey Creek bridge. One lane will be open to traffic in the work area.

Crews will have various types of traffic control in place to secure the safety of the motoring public as well as employees. MoDOT encourages motorists to buckle up, slow down, follow work zone signing and drive safely through the area.

The bridge replacement is part of MoDOT's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, which will improve 800 of Missouri's worst bridges in five years - by the end of 2013. Ninety bridges will be replaced or repaired in the mid-Missouri area as a part of this program. Currently, 192 of the bridges included in the program have been improved statewide.
