Committee Meets to Discuss Safety Improvements for the U.S. Route 54 Corridor in Cole County

COLE COUNTY - The Missouri Department of Transportation will host an advisory committee meeting on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 to discuss possible safety improvements to the U.S. Route 54 corridor in Cole County.

This is the second meeting of the committee, which is comprise of local law enforcement, emergency response, school districts, public works and area residents and business owners. The committee's task is to provide input to MoDOT to help determine what types of safety improvements would function best at the various intersections along Route 54.

The purpose of Wednesday's meeting is to review the types of engineering options available to reduce intersection crashes.

"During our first meeting, we outlined MoDOT's roadway safety goals and talked in depth about the number and types of crashes that occur along Route 54 in Cole County," said MoDOT Transportation Project Manager Trent Brooks. "Now we're ready to talk about the types of improvements we want the committee to consider and what impact they might have on the intersection crash rates."

The advisory committee is meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the Cole County Fire Station 4, 5206 Monticello Road. Interested members of the public may attend and observe the meeting. Any questions or comments from the general public will be addressed following the meeting. Accessibility accommodations will be available.
