MoDOT to Hold Public Hearing for New Route 5 Hurricane Deck Bridge in Camden County

CAMDEN COUNTY - The Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on Thursday, July 28, 2011 to gather public input about the location and design of a new Hurricane Deck Bridge on Route 5 in Camden County. The Hurricane Deck Bridge is located just south of Sunrise Beach.

The hearing will be held from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District Administrative Building, located at 30 Porter Mill Springs Road in Sunrise Beach. The public may attend the hearing at any time during the advertised hours to speak with MoDOT staff and provide comments. No formal presentations will be made. The meeting location is accessible to persons with disabilities.

MoDOT has proposed an innovative method of replacing the Hurricane Deck Bridge, which would maintain traffic on Route 5 with only short-term closures to establish temporary roadway tie-ins and to move either the newly constructed bridge or the existing structure.

Some temporary construction easements will be needed for the bridge replacement. The project is estimated to cost about $25 million to construct. Work could begin in 2012 and would take approximately two years to complete.

An environmental assessment for the bridge replacement was completed in late June and is also available for public review. The document is available at www.modot.org/central or at the following locations in mid-Missouri.:

  • MoDOT Central Missouri District Office, 1511 Missouri Blvd., Jefferson City, Mo. 65102
  • MoDOT Camdenton Project Office, 93 Morgan Street, Camdenton, Mo. 65020

The public comment period for the environmental assessment runs through Aug. 8, 2011. After the comment period closes, MoDOT will address any substantive public and agency comments in the final decision document.
