Maintenance Buildings: Lebanon, Nebo
Missouri Department of Transportation presented multiple options for moving forward with replacing the Interstate 44 outer road bridge over the Gasconade River near Hazelgreen at a public meeting on December 14, 2016 in Lebanon.
No formal presentation wasl made at the meeting, but MoDOT designers and engineers presented the following proposed options for the bridge:
- Do nothing.
- Rehabilitate the existing structure using either MoDOT or contract workers.
- Build a new, standard bridge in the same place as the existing structure.
- Construct a new, standard bridge nearby.
- Build a connection between the north outer roadway segments using the existing bridge piers from a previous rehabilitation project.
- Construct a new truss bridge (similar to the current bridge) in the same location as the existing bridge.
Employees with MoDOT’s Historic Preservation Unit were also be on hand to explain the federal Section 106 Process, which identifies historic properties, analyzes potential effects on them and determines what action will need to be taken to avoid, minimize or mitigate those effects. More information on historic preservation and the Section 106 Process can be found at www.modot.mo.gov/ehp/HistoricPreservation.htm.
MoDOT closed the Laclede County bridge on Dec. 18, 2014, after an inspection determined it was unsafe for travel. In July of this year, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission approved funding for a new bridge.
Here are the materials that were presented at the public meeting:
