SRT-350 Features That Differ From the BCT

  • The bearing plate at post #1 is a slotted plate.
  • A strut has been added between posts #1 and #2.
  • The first 25' -0" of guardrail is slotted rail.
  • Slot guards are used at the end of the slots.
  • Posts #3 through #10 are CRT posts and are spaced at 3' -1 1/2" spacing.
  • W-beam rail is not bolted to posts 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.
  • Back up plates are used at posts 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.

BCT to SRT-350 Conversion
(Existing BCT steel post option with soil tubes)

Determine that the system has the proper flare and offset. Most importantly, determine that posts 1 and 2 soil tubes are in the proper locations.

Preparation:

Remove the end section and set it aside for reuse.

Disassemble the cable anchor assembly. Set aside the cable anchor bracket, cable and the hardware for reuse.

Remove the rail panels of the BCT (37' -6). The last 12' -6 of guardrail is set aside for reuse at this installation. The other 25' -0 of guardrail can be returned to the maintenance yard for standard guardrail repair needs.

Remove steel post and blocks at locations 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7. These posts and blocks can be returned to the maintenance yard for standard guardrail repair needs.

Reconstruction

Install CRT posts at 3' -1 1/2" spacing at locations 3 through 10.

Bolt blocks and backup plates at posts 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 & 10 (Backup plate only at post 2).

Install strut between post 1 and 2 at ground level using the existing 5/8" x 9-1/2" bolts going through the tube and post.

Reinstall 12' -6 of standard rail, then 12' -6 slotted rail (PC-35G); or install 25' -0 section slotted rail (PC-63G) from guardrail run (post 11) toward terminal. Bolt to post 5 including a backup plate.

Install 12' -6 slotted rail (PC-34G) bolting the splice pattern and attaching to post 1.

Attach the cable anchor bracket to the guardrail (this could have been done at the maintenance yard to reduce exposure and time at the jobsite). Reattach the cable as before and install the new (slotted) bearing plate with the existing hardware.

Reinstall the end section.

Install the slot guards (this could have been done at the maintenance yard to reduce exposure and time at the jobsite).
