MoDOT will provide electronic design data via the Online Plans Room (INDOX Services) along with the bidding documents to
aid the bidder in the use of automation of bid estimates,
and/or machine control construction technology.
Will electronic
design data be provided for all projects?
Policy 237.14 of the Engineering Policy Guide regarding electronic deliverables for design data was updated to include 3D models of highway projects and it went into effect on February 1, 2012.
New highway projects started after February 1, 2012 will be designed using the new 3D modeling design tools available to MoDOT. We are slowly transitioning to a 3D model based design with the current tools available, so 3D models for resurfacing and bridge projects will NOT be available at this time. Make sure to read Policy 237.14 of the EPG and the Interim Guidelines for more information.
Exactly
what design data is being provided and in what format? See Policy 237.14 of the EPG for detailed information.
The design data will
be provided in the native format of MicroStation and/or GEOPAK
files as used by the department, and may include:
-
MicroStation
drawings (.dgn files) showing proposed master (strip map)
plan view geometry or profile view geometry as well as master GEOPAK intelligent cross-sections.
- Existing terrain model as a Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) both in GEOPAK TIN and LandXML formats.
-
GEOPAK coordinate
geometry database provided in its native GEOPAK format (.gpk file) as well as Land XML format. This file contains final horizontal
and vertical alignments, special ditch profiles, and any other necessary
points.
-
3D digital design model representing the proposed finished grade surface in GEOPAK TIN, LandXML, and InRoads DTM (when available) formats. A second surface such as "top of aggregate" may be available.
