Lloyd J. Carmichael

Lloyd J. Carmichael joined the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission in May 2009.  His term expires in March 2015.  Commissioner Carmichael was appointed by Governor Jeremiah “Jay” Nixon.

Carmichael serves as president and managing partner of the Springfield law firm of Carmichael & Neal, P.C.  His primary areas of practice include tax law, and business planning and transactions.  He received his B.A. degree from Missouri State University in 1969.  Upon completion of his studies at the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1974, he joined the international accounting firm of Arthur Young & Co. as a staff tax attorney before returning to Springfield, Missouri to practice law and teach.  He was an associate professor at Missouri State University for three years where he taught and developed tax law courses. 

Carmichael was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1974 and became a certified public accountant in 1976.  He is a long time member of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association, the Missouri Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Southwest Chapter of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants.  Carmichael has also served for the Democratic Party at the county, state, and national levels.

Carmichael and his wife Marie have two children, Kathryn and Joseph.
