I-64 Regional Traffic -- May Monthly Report

ST. LOUIS - Traffic continued to flow well during the month of May on the alternate routes during the east half closure of Interstate 64.  MoDOT, St. Louis City and St. Louis County engineers continue to monitor the region's interstates and major alternate roads.  Signal timings are continually monitored with minor adjustments made as needed.

Here are the major observations from the month of May 2009:

  • Crashes, incidents and weather are the biggest factors causing delays on the interstates.  The number of incidents continues to rise each month with May having more than April.
  •  The most congested hour for morning rush continues to be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for evening rush.
  • Volumes continue to be heavy on Forest Park Parkway.  It is carrying nearly double the amount this year with almost 60,000 vehicles per day.
  • The biggest increase on the interstates continues to be I-64 between the Missouri River and I-270.  Both morning and evening rush have an increase of 40 percent with volumes greater than in 2007.
